Swagelok® Tubing System Training Program - Hydrogen Applications
Course overview
One of the most formidable challenges in the development of safe, dependable, and leak-tight hydrogen fluid systems is the nature of hydrogen itself. Building fluid systems designed to overcome the challenges that hydrogen presents requires the right components, the right materials, the right expertise, and the right training.
This program provides hands-on training for those responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and/or inspecting H2 tubing systems.
Course duration
2 days
What you'll learn
This training program is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of:
-
What is Hydrogen?
- You’ll learn what makes hydrogen different from other gases and why it can be challenging to store and handle safely.
- We’ll separate myths from facts so you understand the real risks, and we’ll look at a real hydrogen incident to show why proper installation, training, and maintenance are so important.
- By the end, you’ll know how careful handling and good practices keep hydrogen systems safe and reliable.
-
Joint types used in the Hydrogen industry
- Understand the array of joints available and the challenges associated with a small molecule gas
-
Hydrogen Compatible Materials
- Understand the risks of different metal and non metal choice. Best practice and materials to avoid.
-
Risk Mitigation and Best Practices
-
Tube Fitting Installation
- Tailored for Hydrogen applications
- Practical exercise to pull up tube fittings to demonstrate competency using a variety of fitting types with differing installation procedures.
-
Tube Bending
- Bending tube offers the advantage to reduce joints in a hydrogen system promoting safety.
- Hands-on bending exercises to demonstrate and check delegate competency to practically bend tube using the measure bend method
-
Tube Fitting Installation Inspection
- Clear guideline to judge condition of new and existing builds
- Invasive and non invasive checks
- Practical exercises to understand common installation errors on tube fittings that can lead to safety concerns
- Improve risk awareness and learn the skills to identify safe, faulty or dangerous applications
- Fault finding exercise where delegates find panel faults and identify seriousness of errors and corrective actions as necessary
-
Higher Pressure Module
- Where is higher pressure hydrogen likely to be encountered?
- Risks of high pressure systems
- Tubing considerations and good practise for selection and preparation.
- Introduction to FK and Cone & Thread jointing technologies for high pressure hydrogen
-
FK Medium-Pressure Tube Fittings
- Understand the fitting type and suitability for Hydrogen
- Assembly and reassembly instructions with best practises
- Gaugeability
- Troubleshooting of common installation errors
- Practical pull up of FK fitting
-
Cone and Thread Fittings
- Understand the fitting type and suitability for Hydrogen
- Assembly and reassembly instructions with best practises
- Troubleshooting of common installation errors
- Practical pullup of Cone and thread fitting
- Practical to cone and thread tubing prior to the pull up
-
Leak Testing
- Leak testing options for hydrogen systems
- Practical exercise to leak check the test piece from the fitting practical using Helium
- Practical exercise to identify leaks on a panel using Helium
-
Knowledge Test
Knowledge test to prove understanding of all course content and prove sufficient understanding to pass the course
Who should attend?
TSTP hands-on training is ideal for installers, technicians, engineers, designers, QC/QA inspectors, and others responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and/or inspecting tubing systems in hydrogen and small molecule gas delivery systems.
Troubleshooting and inspection is a vital part of checking critical systems such as hydrogen. Relevant to all as they need to check their own work as well as others and gives a decision basis for all job roles, such as managers and supervisors that have responsibilities to sign off as safe, Hydrogen tubing systems.
Certification of completion
Successful attendees will receive a Swagelok® certificate of completion which is valid for three years. For added customer assurance, training certificates are tracked using a centralised Swagelok customer training records system. This enables those who have completed the course and their employers quick and easy verification of training records.
