Course overview
Become a codified welder and complete the Swagelok® M200 Orbital Welding and ASME IX Certification course for manual and orbital welding.
In this advanced course, you will learn valuable orbital welding skills including how to achieve consistent and quality welds with the Swagelok® M200 orbital welder, as well as how to write weld procedures.
Unlike our one-day M200 introduction course, this programme provides extended hands-on practical training designed to develop the skills required to prepare, set up and complete orbital welds independently across a wider range of applications.
The four-day programme develops practical M200 orbital welding skills, with an optional fifth day available for delegates working towards ASME Section IX certification.
Who is this course for?
Suitable for welders and weld operators without orbital welding experience who want to learn the technique, as well as experienced orbital welders with a desire to improve their skills, this training programme is an intensive four-day course covering a range of welding techniques and skills under qualified expert supervision.
The course is intended for personnel who need to develop practical operator competence rather than general M200 system familiarisation.
To maximise individual hands-on experience, the course is limited to eight delegates, with no more than two delegates sharing each M200 welding system during practical exercises.
What's involved?
Our Orbital Welding Training Course is run by experienced operators with Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) and Certified Weld Educator (CWE) qualifications.
At the end of our four-day course you must be able to successfully prepare and weld a tubing system without assistance.
Practical training progresses beyond individual tube-to-tube welds to include the preparation and welding of an assembly incorporating both tube-to-tube and tube-to-fitting orbital welds. This provides delegates with significantly greater practical experience of applying the M200 system to representative welding applications.
An optional fifth day is also available. This advanced programme covers welding under ASME Section IX and contains an exam to achieve certification.
Training objectives
Utilising the latest in cutting edge welding techniques, our course has the following training objectives:
- Ensuring that you can set up and operate welding equipment independently
- Familiarisation and comprehension of fundamental metallurgy and the industry standards and specifications for orbital welding
- Learn how the correct gas selection and purging techniques can affect the overall quality of a weld
- Learn how to select, set up and care for tungsten electrodes
- Practice orbital welding on multiple applications with up to 4-inch diameter tubing
- Prepare and complete a weld assembly incorporating both tube-to-tube and tube-to-fitting welds
- Understand the weld map and practical consideration of which welds to do first.
- Development of a weld procedure and practice that can impact the quality of a weld by adjusting the process
- Learn maintenance techniques and procedures that protect your equipment while also utilising troubleshooting methods to limit the risk of errors
- All techniques prepare the delegate for ASME Section IX certification
- Optional fifth day to prepare certifiable samples for ASME Section IX
Course outcome
On completion of the four-day programme, delegates should have developed the practical skills required to prepare, set up and complete orbital welds independently using the M200 system across the applications covered during the course.
The optional fifth day provides the opportunity to prepare certifiable samples for ASME Section IX qualification.
Group size: Maximum 8 delegates. Practical training is delivered with no more than two delegates sharing each M200 welding system.
