Introduction to M200 Orbital Weld Training 1-Day Course
Training Hub >> Specialist training courses >> Introduction to M200 Orbital Weld Training 1-Day Course
Course overview
This one-day introductory course provides practical orientation and familiarisation with the Swagelok® M200 orbital welding system.
Designed particularly for customers introducing the M200 into their operation, the course gives delegates an understanding of the fundamental principles of orbital welding and introduces the correct setup and operation of the M200 system.
The course combines instructor demonstration with guided hands-on experience using an M200 orbital welding system. To ensure delegates have appropriate access to the equipment, each course is designed for small groups of up to four delegates.
Practical exercises focus on tube-to-tube welding, allowing delegates to become familiar with equipment setup, tube preparation and the basic welding process within the time available.
For larger groups, multiple one-day sessions can be arranged, allowing each group the opportunity to participate fully in the practical elements of the course.
Who is this course for?
The course is suitable for welders and weld operators who are new to the Swagelok M200 system, particularly those who have recently introduced an M200 orbital welder into their workplace. It can also provide useful familiarisation or refresher training for personnel with previous orbital welding experience.
The programme is intended to provide M200 system orientation and introductory practical experience. It does not provide the extended practical skills development and range of welding applications covered by our advanced 4/5-day Orbital Weld Training Course.
What you'll learn in our single day course
- M200 equipment setup and basic operation
- Fundamental principles of orbital welding and relevant industry standards
- Gas selection and the importance of correct purging
- Selection, setup and care of tungsten electrodes
- Tube preparation and its effect on weld quality
- Supervised practice of tube-to-tube orbital welds on ¼” and ½” stainless steel tubing
- The principles of weld procedure development and the effect of process adjustments
- Basic equipment care, maintenance and troubleshooting
Practical exercises allow delegates to apply these principles and gain supervised hands-on experience using the M200 system. The practical scope of the one-day course is limited to tube-to-tube welds.
Course outcome
On completion, delegates should understand the fundamental principles of M200 orbital welding and be familiar with the preparation, setup and basic operation of the equipment through supervised tube-to-tube welding exercises.
For personnel who need to develop the practical skills to prepare and weld tubing systems independently, including tube-to-tube and tube-to-fitting welds as part of a weld assembly, develop weld procedures and work towards ASME Section IX qualification, our advanced 4/5-day Orbital Weld Training Course is recommended.
Group size: Up to 4 delegates per one-day course. For larger teams, we recommend multiple sessions to maintain the practical, hands-on nature of the training.

Swagelok® Orbital Weld Training Course - 4/5 Day Course
Our advanced 4/5-day Orbital Weld Training Course provides significantly greater practical experience and skills development for personnel who need to prepare, set up and complete orbital welding applications independently, with an optional pathway to ASME Section IX certification.
